I'am and 18 year old male and would like to one day own a trucking company, where I contract my services (trucks) for deliveries to various distributors. My motive to get in this industry is my uncle in California who owns many trucks, 17 of them I beleive. He has been in the bussiness for years, becoming substantialy stable in income. How and where would I start to look about this possible career?!?
advice/answers to my question would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Ignore the rude people. It's obvious that not many people know about the industry. If I were you, besides asking your uncle how he got started, I'd build some credit, take out a huge loan, and buy a decent truck. Start making runs yourself to get enough money to either buy another truck or get another loan for another truck. Hire someone else and just keep building. Maybe you could start by working for your uncle to make a little money to get you started. There is a huge need for drivers in my area. I live in a busy gas field. There are a lot of people here that have made big bucks with their trucks. Contact me if your interested in the companies here. Good luck! By the way...I would talk to your uncle first!!!

When you post a question you are opening yourself up for good and bad feedback.
First, adjust your attitude!
Then look into talking to people who are currently doing the type of work you are seeking.
The best way to learn the ins and outs is to get a job working with trucks --- so that you will gain hand-ons experience now which will put you in a position of knowledge so that you will not have to depend upon the knowledge of others to make your business profitable.
Would this be similar to FED EX/UPS then seek opportunities with them to learn what they are doing (good and bad)? Or seek employment with a company in your area who is doing something similar to what you are seeking.
When contracting trucks for deliveries, also decide whether you want to be responsible for truck maintenance or whether to contract with someone else for those issues.

go work for your uncle for a couple of years, so you get an idea of how things work. work on your credit to get the loan you will need to start up this buisness, and save lots, (and i do mean a whole hell of a lot) of money. and you could own your own place in 5 years

So you are not close to your uncle,a little touchy are we? You could try to talk to a trucker in your area, or look in the phone book for trucking companies and talk to some one there. Also you might go to your local manpower office and talk to some one there.

Why not work for him and LEARN the business that way?
Start out driving for a year then work your way into the office.
Then after you have gained knowledge and experience FRANCHISE off his business.
