What is your opinion of Madonna staging a mock-crucificion during her concert in Rome last night?

I think its a stupid publicity stunt from someone who should really know better. Its up there with her telling everyone at Live Aid to start a f-ing revolution, when lets face it, if we were to overthrow the system and redistribtute wealth, people like her would be the first against the wall.

My main reason for feeling that way is because it serves no purpose. Im an athiest, but a believer in freedom of speech and rights of expression, so I dont think anyone can actually STOP her from doing it... but she should know better and people, regardless of their religion, should boycott it if they agree it is wrong.

What irks me is that artistically, its serves no purpose. I mean, I just dont get it - what statement is she making? What is the purpose of pissing all these people off? What is the actual point of doing it other then to get attention and publicity?

Madonna isnt even an artist, She is a celeb. Celebs crave attention and fame. Artists make a point or a statement and whatever fame/money they get from it is a byproduct.

A gimmick. A publicity stunt. Something to talk about when the music itself isn't worth talking about.

Madonna hasn't produced any good music since.. well, ages. She needs every trick she can find to get people to pay attention to her. It's likely that she's relying on the Vatican's reaction to get some free airtime on the news & tabloids.

Not bothered. I'm not a religious guy and I don't like Madonna's music.

I especially don't like the ammount she charges for tickets to her concerts. I'm off to see my favourite band (Iron Maiden) in December, and I'm only paying £59. That includes the coach trip from Preston to Manchester!

It was a sad cry for attention from a washed up pop star. This is the only way that she knows how to keep her career going. She has done it for years. She just finds a way to piss off someone and then releases a new album....the cycle continues.

I think they're making a big deal about nothing....people know how Madonna is....she's always been over the top. It's nothing new for her! It's not even the worst thing she's done onstage!!!!

You're all no better than those religious fanatics who have nothing better to do than criticize everything the woman does. It was to shock and to get people to talk about her, which it has done. I'm sure it has offended some people but it is the sort of thing that she does. It is just a shame shame can't rely on her music to sell tickets and has to resort to publicity stunts.

She's trying to shock but has forgotten in this day and age we've seen, heard, done it all.

I think just leave her to it but if she really wanted to shock she should either get on stage in a nice tweedy outfit more suitable for her age or shoot someone on stage (preferably herself).
