The Sex Pistols.
They were the innovators and definers of the punk movement, and very rude and abusive.
The Clash were awesome and had their own genre but were really in the footsteps of the Sex Pistols.

I really think the Clash. The Sex Pistols in my opinion were overrated. They were more made by their manager than a true DIY band. The Clash and Joe Strummer seemed to have influenced more bands than the Sex Pistols have, like someone said they were more about the music than the fashion. More real.

I feel that the Sex Pistols were more influential on the fashion side of the punk genere. I mean it was McClaren and Westwood that put the band together (the original boy band?... another time, another discussion) and dressed them up... Where as The Clash were a proper band that were more concerned with music and getting the point across. So I feel that The Clash were more of an influence on music.

The Clash if I had to choose one I would say The Clash - musically at least. They lasted longer and Joe Strummer was going on and on and the sex pistols were more vibrant and in your face superficially, in image but didnt really have the soul to really stand for anything or the stamina to last. they were more flimsy and the clash was more rooted and strong and true!

Tough one. One point to consider: "London Calling" was named (back then) the most influential album of the 80's by Rolling Stone...
