You're actually hitting quite close to your bandwidth restrictions. 256kbps is 32 KBps which is quite close to what you reported. They don't tell you that windows reports downloads in kilobytes and services report it in kilobits. The difference is a factor of 8. They do it for pyschological reasons. People are more inclined to buy a 256kbps service than a 32 KBps service though they are the exact same thing. You have to get a faster connection to go any faster than your current speed.

Your download speed has nothing to do with your connection speed. In other words, you may have 256kbps as a connection speed, but your download speed will still be about 30-50kbps.

I would suggest a 1.5meg line from Bresnan Communications or Quest, which has one too. This will make your download speed increase to 200 - 300 kbps!

Hope this helps. :)

when they say 256kbps, it may not always be so.

the download speed is different speed.

Yeah your internet provider speed is 256 kbps (Kilo-Bits per second) and your download speed is 30 kbps (Kilo-Bytes per second). It is a totally different thing, but myself I have Charter Cable internet at 3Mbps (about 380kb/s). But I have a big network so what can I do about it.
