I would like to start a coffee shop selling percolated coffee with the posibility of selling cakes with it. Give me advice on how to start it. People where I am thinking to run this don't have any alternative at all. I have tables, chairs, mugs, plates, cutleries in short and maybe the location as well. It is right on the sea side. How do I go about advertising it.

Write a business plan. Spend alot of time outlining the various task that need to be accomplished. Think about the sequence of task performance, set deadlines and milestones. I've never seen a business suceed without a plan.

Coffee drinkers love Starbucks. Typically they are located on the "go to work" side of the road. That means determine where does traffic flow in the morning, and where does it flow in the evening. Locate a coffee shop on the go to work side. A beach is probably not a great place to set up and will lack the most likely traffic you need for success..

You should re-evaluate your location and connect with a good commercial real estate broker. Do NOT use a real estate agent that deals mainly with houses who has "done" a few commercial deals. You need the real deal, your survival will depend upon the information they will provide and typical residential agents are clueless- they don't even know the difference in go to work or go home sides of the road nor likely have they even heard of the terms.

I can get you in contact with a good commercial broker in your area if you'll email me.

I will be starting my cafe in couple of weeks time, my ways of getting ppl in the first time is:

1.I am able to convince a newlywed friend of mine to have a small party for friends over at my place. Giving them the opportunity to be my first customer!

2.I have been distributing nicely printed introduction flyers to my closest friends to spread the words.

3.i have a list of major suppliers or influential person like local successful businessmen or professionals, whereby i have hand given invitation card to another private function. These 'elite' group of people like to mingle with each other, but beware if there is any of them whom are nemesis to each other!

Well, these are some of the ideas i had after seeing so many not so successful opening of new startup by my friends, i just got tha feeling these would work! Hope it will brings you some great impact too!
