I think its been pretty well established that Materazzi said something insulting about his family... No one else except Zidane, Materazzi and the proper authorities at FIFA will ever know what was really said... You didn't honestly expect them to publish the comments!?

Yes, of direction. Zidane is THE soccer participant ever. And there's no "incident" in order to make this unfaithful. However, he is a human. And no person folks understand what's in the back of this tale. So, the excellent soccer participant deseved to get the award, without a doubt.

If you saw the match, Materazzi was pulling Zidane's shirt; when Zidane pulled away he was smiling and talking back to Materazzi, finally he turns around and head butt the italian player.
According to an italian sport newspaper (gazzetta dello sport), when Materazzi pulled Zidane's jersey, he said to him "if you want my shirt I'll remove it and give it to you at the end of the game". Materazzi answered "I do not want to remove your shirt, but I would love to remove your sister's shirt" (Zidane's sister is a model in Italy); and that's when he turned around and head butted Materazzi
