Is it true that once you play for an international team you cannot change your nationality to play on a different International team?

Yes, it is the latest rule of FIFA on this matter. Before this, you can play for one country in a World Cup and play for another country in the next World Cup-and we can find such cases in early World Cups.
In order to prevent "talent-robbery", FIFA issued this rule.

1. You can only play for countries for which you have citizenship .

2. If you play a competative match for the senior national team of a nation you cannot change to another team. In soccer circles this is termed as being cap-tied to a team.

Youth national games do not count and players can change after having played for the youth national team.

It is now, once you have played a full international for a nation, that is your nation for life.
