I bought the Swiffer Wet Jet last year but decided it took more effort to use it on my floor than a mop. The linoleum on my floors are still in good shape, but we have four kids so my floors get pretty dirty. It was too expensive too for how often I have to mop. Maybe if you live in a brand new house with only one or two adults, it would be fine. But it's not good for anything else. I gave mine away.

because they are the best things ever made - I love them and have all of them and the new carpet flick is the best - buy one and you will see why. Why do clothing stores show new clothes on their commercials and not old ones and why don't dentist's commercials and toothpaste commericals show dirty stained teeth - pretty silly question - really. Did you only ever see one commercial in ur life and this was it. Are your floors that bad you would get this po'ed about it??
<~~~poster girl for swiffer
they sell the one to mop with for kitchens which works great, the dust ones for floor that pick up dirt, dust, pet hair, etc and the new carpet flick which leaves lines like a vacuum and actually picks stuff up to save u from vacuuming - it flicks the bigger stuff into the top sticky part and then the smaller things, like hair or little dirt it sticks to the bottom but it knows to flick the bigger pieces to the top. I love it! yes i do. just got it ~ a big fan.
oe more thing - why are we picking on swiffer - I think all cleaning products do that - show nice floors, etc like pledge and mr clean - all of them - all bathroom products, kitchens, all mops, etc - why just swiffer? and they are not that expensive - if you go to their site there is a coupon to get the new one almost for free I saw on the commercial. All detergent commercials show bright clothes - all cleaning, nice floors, etc - weird it is just this one you mention.

Swiffer products insult me. They expensive throwaway products that aren't any more convenient than the old fashioned products. They have started a wave of quick clean products that are overpriced and made to need replacing. I personally do not need a battery powered toilet brush, or a dusting mitt made of fabric softener like paper. And this ambush of easy includes how there is a premoistened WIPE for everything these days...which are expensive, dry out too fast, and again, aren't any easier to use. Cleaning with microfiber rags, or plain old generic paper towels, and spray cleaners like Windex, mops and cleaning concentrates like Murphy, PineSol, and Lysol are SIMPLE to use, cheap to buy (generic or not) and still versatile enough to do many different jobs.
If you want to get Swiffer like products, without spending a fortune, try a shhh mop. It is a fitted terrycloth (washable) cover that goes over a square pivoting pad...kind of like the new Mr. Clean all in one bath cleaner (with the mopper on it). Or get a Hoover floor mate. It is the size of a large vacuum or shampooer. But it is for hard floors...a major investment but it will pay for itself compared to equal money spent on Swiffer products.
As for the condition of the floors...I think that Swiffer markets on the premise that you will use their stuff often enough, spot cleaning, that your floor will never get that bad, it is not for heavy duty cleaning...spending money money money on refills for daily upkeep when a BROOM will do ya just fine.
The cleaning solution for WetJet and other similar do it all systems, I think is probably best suited for some tile, laminate, PERGO, and other synthetic floors. Stuff like marble and wood? I would NOT trust with it.
And of course, it is marketing. Slick and seductive. Making you want that kind of home, even if yours will NEVER look like the one on TV.

Swiffer products suck. Bottom line. Might as well use your own vacuum and mop. They do a better job and cost less.
As for their ad's, it's plain old marketing. People want to think their houses are going to look just as beautiful and pristine as the lovely homes they show in their commercials.

Im not really rich or anything but I have marble floors, and new hardwood flooring in my house. I find swiffer works great on those floors, but in the bedrooms upstrairs, they have older wood floors and it does not work aswell so I see what you mean. It makes the room smell great though!!

well the answer to the original question is that they want to sell the product and simplicity is one thing that people look for in a product. and the new floor thing well would you buy something that made your ugly floor look brand new again? of course you would.

What they fail to tell you is that the wet mops leave a residue on the floor so that you have to mop everyday to keep your floors looking clean!!

That's advertising for you. I was in it for 6 years. The one that kills me the most is that they use 14 year old models to advertise wrinkle cream!!!
Give me a break. These girls have barely gotten their periods and here they are representing themselves as someone who needs wrinkle cream.
Don't believe everything you read.

I have serious arthritis in my hands and legs, and I can't use a regular mop. I couldn't do without my Swiffer. I'm so glad to have one.
