Just heard that they allow sex offenders. Have a six year old daughter. Is safety an issue? Is new management taking care of these supposed issues? What is the safety level?

While other safety factors of this development should certainly be taken into account when planning for housing for your family, the residence of registered sex offenders will be an issue almost anywhere you may live. IF the ofendee is residing where he/she is registered to be, and IF he/she is registered at all, you can locate their home addresses in Texas from the following site:

You might check at www.apartmentratings.com. Tenants and prior tenants rate and comment on various complexes. It's very useful.

I'm not too far from there and the reputation for that complex is pretty poor. Lots of thugs from what I hear.

One warning on sexual predators - I guarantee that the one that hurts your child will not be someone you suspected. My daughter (then 7) was molested by a 9 year old girl who had been raped herself. No it wasn't sex play, yes what she did to my daughter was unquestionably molestation. How could I know I had to watch for another child?

Another friend had her son raped, in front of his older brother who was held down, by teenagers. All the time you hear news reports of teachers and ministers.

My point is that picking a "safe" neighborhood cuts down on robberies and muggings, but doesn't necessarily offer protection from this sort of crime. You will need to be diligent no matter what. If she's out with kids, check on her often (15 min or so) and KNOW all the kids and their parents and apt numbers. Don't let her play in her room with the door closed. Be careful who you leave her with.

My Sis in law just moved into the Anderson Mill Apts that are not far from the International and also lower priced. It's quite a bit better though still has some residents she's not fond of. The manager there is sweet and the elementary is across the street, as is a small park.

Good luck.
