Because people follow trends and can't decide if they like music for themselves. Whatever is popular people will jump on the bandwagon just to be "cool". I agree with you hip-hop has sunk to an all time low. Before people used to like people with better lyrics and skill in rapping, now everyone likes the most popular rappers. 90% of rappers out there are trash now. Rock has sunk down to a new low as well cmon.. None of these new popular bands will ever compare to bands like Led Zepplin, Metallica or Guns n Roses.

Brainwashed.

That says it all. Their feeble existence has been corrupted by the dominant media. So much so the vast fury hoards of sheep, formally known as humans, will believe in what ever they are shown on TV.

Simply put, independent thought has been extinguished in most people. They claim to be an individual while they follow the pack and do what they are told.

Music, like many other things, is not good or bad in and of itself. What we like we deem "good" and what we don't like we label as "bad". As you grow older and more mature (hopefully) you develop a broader perspective and realize that every generation has their music and thinks all else is "old", "stupid", ,etc. Just enjoy what you like and don't worry about the rest. I think I'll play some Elvis, Jan and Dean, Beach Boys, early Beatles...

Hey, it's not all bad. I'm 28 and still like the oldies, along with some other popular music. You just have to keep an open mind that's all.

In the sixties, there were bad hippies, malformed as it were, posers, smoked spices, secretly listened to the Beach Boys.

In the seventies there were bad disco-ites, went to dance classes at night in adult edu classes at the local high school, really had no sense of style, secretly listened to the Moody Blues.

The eighties saw bad Madoona/Stevie Nicks clones, who secretly hated Cindy Lauper and bought their garb at the Salvation Army thrift stores, andsecretly listened to glam bands late at night, hoping for a better tomorrow.

The ninties saw bad grunge posers who wore the white tees under ill fitting plad shirts, didn't wash and smoked camels, but at night secretly listened to Billy Joel and old Abba, hoping they would make musicals from these gems.

...and so now the rage is pierce things, dye your hair until they notice, drinking coffee-like beverages, and pretend to love terrible monotoned poorly recorded local garage bands and telling everyone you have a band, but at night you secret download the great music your parents grooved to and secret admit that today's music stinks.

....tomorrow's kids will dress respectfully during the new big band era...thank God for ear buds and dark sunglasses.

i think its because people are idiots and they are under- educated. They don't know what a talented musician is. They are not exposed to real talent, real musicians. I worked with a girl who had never even heard of eric clapton. She was victim to bad r&b, crappy emo, and all that pop stuff. I do feel sorry for people missing out on real music.

What are you considering good music if I like it its good to me, I have herd all kinds of music and a lot of it was in bad taste but still had a beat you could dance to, so its bad music that can make me do a jig its not all bad.

Everyone has their tastes, I for one prefer Classic Rock, the newest thing I listen to is Rage Against the Machine, then Nirvana, then all my stuff is 60s-early 80s.

I love rap and some rock but most music these days - in all pop categories - is pretty much crap.

That's why it called "pop" music. It just watered down mindless drivel. i totally agree with you. The vast majority of the music on the radio blows donkeys.
