Boondock Saints for action.
Happiness - very dark but definitely not your typical Hollywood movie.

Sideways. Hysterical! Two friends in wine country and their trials and tribulations. Paul Giamatti,Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen. Two thumbs up!
Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. Another hilarious movie. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Like a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Two thumbs up!
Chocolat. Beautiful. Johnny Depp and Julliette Binoche. I love this movie, romantic and deep. Another two thumbs up!
A good three independent films that are all winners in my book. And I believe some are Cannes film festival winners as well.

Look for foreign movies, if you like unpredictable and non hollywood stuff...like Taxi (french), Horror movies like "The Shutter" (Thailand).
however, i'd like to recommend some nice hollywood ones like "crash" (the recent nominated oscar movie) cuz it's full of current issues that are facing the world today, M night shyamalan's ' Sixth sense' and 'The Village' and NOT the latest stuff about 'Lady in The Water' cuz it's stupid!
check out blockbusters if you want....like "Batman returns', X- men I,II & III....nice stuff!

"Go" is very cool.
"Bang Bang, Kiss Kiss" is zany and unpredictable.
"Arlington road", "Fight Club" and "No Way Out" are older, but have great unpredictable plots.
"Repo Man" and "SLC Punk" are kinda insane.
