Plecostumus. These fish are the best scum eaters. They eat all day and can defend themselves from other fish.

Plecostomus is what your thinking of. A great fish to have but needs a large tank of about 30+ gallons. Don't buy two of the same species as they tend not to get along. I have one and he is just awesome!!

?Janitor fish? is clean

The dexterous ?janitor fish? is harmless to man and other fish, the Department of Science and Technology's Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development declared.

The announcement is expected to sweep the alarm raised by the fish's supposed harmful effect on fish cages in Laguna de Bay and ecological damage to river systems like that of Marikina's.

PCAMRD said the fish is an imported freshwater catfish species native to South America. The janitor fish, scientifically called Hypostomus plecostomus, is an aquarium fish introduced in the 1990s by the local ornamental fish industry. It cleans up an aquarium by feeding on algae growing on its sides, a natural mania that earned it such moniker.

The ?janitor fish?, which grows to 30 centimeters long feeds on algae and small crustaceans. Its spines are not poisonous and its flesh is edible.

It was previously bred in ponds in Laguna but has escaped into Laguna de Bay and nearby river systems. It digs up holes on pond dikes and river embankments for its breeding nests.

When feeding on algae growing on the nets of fish cages in Laguna de Bay, the janitor fish's rasping mouth can cause jagged cuts to the net that may result to the breakout of cultured fish.

Not valued as a food fish, the ?janitor fish? however can be utilized as a fishmeal source and in fish leather making because of its unique and hideous looking skin

Otocinclus, chinese algae eater, plecostamus.

Be careful with plecos, they get HUGE and can eat the scales off other fish. Other algae eaters stay smaller and are less aggressive.

Fresh water i assume? Try corys or if you have a large tank a plecostimas. The spell check bached at both of my spelling on these, but didn't give me anything else that worked either.
