I would wait - if it was at a show or near shops I would get the tannoy to put out an announcement, I would also ring the police BUT at the end of the day for either a baby or a dog YES I would smash the window.

I would smash the window whether it was a baby, cat, dog or any pet. I would smash it immediately so that they dont suffocate and die without air, or if it was hot or cold. They are all God's creatures and the person who does this is totally an irresponsible person and if I would meet that person I sure would give him/her a mouthful.

Dogs and babies are not the same, but yes I would smash the window to get them out if they were in trouble. It would just be quicker if it was a baby.

the police or RSPCA could do it, in the first instance you should report it, if its a critical situation then you would be legally correct, other wise you could face prosecution, but in theory yes.. nothing animal or human should be shut in a car with all windows closed tight, esp in hot weather. And social services would say a child should never be left in a car alone, esp a baby.

I don't think that many people would walk by and see a child or any animal in a situation like you described, without taking action to save them, but there are people who , sometimes without malice,or forethought put lives at risk by placing them in locked vehicles, so why not expect the similar type to walk by and avert thier eyes to the situation, i have seen people walk by when another human who obviously is in distress walk and step over that person on a pavement in a city on a sunday afternoon, he was not drunk he was well dressed, he had a heart attack.
once one stops then curiosity takes over. regards LF......

YOU BET I WOULD!! I followed a truck around town while on the phone with the SPCA, because the jerk had a cat in a tin cage, with ventilation only on the door! It was in the back of the pick up, and the cage was pinned down. We live near Fresno, where it gets HOT. I wish they would have let me put him in there for awhile, see how it feels!

A good samaritan has the option of dialing 911 and let someone else take the heat. But wait on site for the response, don't leave.

Without even thinking about it--and then I'd call the cops after I checked out the idiot who did that. I'd check them out real close and maybe use their head to break the window with.
