U should normally write Yours sincerely for formal letters...if you wish to thank the person too, say "Thanking you", and below it, "Yours Sincerely,"

in case you start up the letter expensive Sir you end it Yours faithfully in case you start up the letter expensive Mr Smith you end it Yours in actual fact. i replaced into taught to undergo in strategies it this sort stupid fool = Sir Faithfully. I not at all understood the reason in the back of this even nevertheless it works. a tenet - discover out the guy who you're sending it too and write the letter directly to them, do no longer handle the letter expensive Human ingredients or expensive Sir / Madam as this exhibits which you haven't any longer have been given the initiative. i take advantage of to artwork for a guy who consistently had the advert pointing out "deliver purposes to A Bond, accepted supervisor". as quickly as the purposes got here with the aid of we saved those that took the time to be sure if A Bond replaced into Mr, Mrs, pass over, Ms and have been given rid of all envelopes, unopened, marked "A Bond, accepted supervisor". solid success

We were taught in business school (circa 1990) that:
If the salutation is Dear John, you use yours sincerely
If the salutation is Dear Mr Roberts or Dear Sir then you use yours faithfully.
i.e. only a Christian name should be used in conjuction with yours sincerely
This is what we were taught, although I don't use this myself. If the addressee is someone known to me in the business world, I sign off with "kind regards" - this of course, depends on the tone of the letter, otherwise "regards" will suffice

Sincerely. Say "thank you" in closing your letter. Like... "Thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to speaking with you in the future".

A cover letter implies formal communication so the closing should be formal as well. The advice given earlier to include thank you in your closing paragraph is absolutely right. Thanks in advance for reading my reply.
Sincerely,
