whatever's cheapest. buy really cheap stuff at drug stores, and lots of it. then explore what works for you.
if you go to department stores and fork over a month's salary for 2 things, then you won't get to find out what looks good on you.
Also, it's widely known that most make up of any given kind comes from the same factory. I kid you not, they just put it in different labels/bottles.
don't be a schmuk and pay $30 for a fancy package.... please? please don't be one of those dumb herded women that follows madison avenue like the pied piper...
Also, instead of spending money on make-up, get a few good make-up BOOKS.
"Making Faces" will inspire you. great book that I highly recommend.

I usually look at reviews before I buy anything. Go to www.cosmeticscop.com, the woman who owns this site does really good, scientific product research. I don't always agree with her color selections, but as far as product quality and formulation, she does a really good job.

I also look at beauty magazines. InStyle's Makeover edition is out now and gives some good color suggestions. Their Best Beauty Buys issue comes out in April and I keep this one all year! These have to be taken with a grain of salt though, Glamour lets readers pick their favorite products, this list came out in a recent issue and there are some pretty awful/outdated things on there.

There are also some good books, but some are a little dated, i.e. Making Faces. Kevyn Aucoin was great, but trends have changed since that book came out (it's still full of way-too-dark lipliner) but there are great suggestions at the beginning about different types of makeup and application.

Cover Girl is nice if you have acne because it is good for healing and preventing pimples. I find Revlon products a little oily. Clinique is nice if you have sensitive skin or dislike scented makeup. I have a friend with Rosecia who can only use Clinique. It is pricy. As for what products to buy a good foundation is important. Make sure you get a good color match. Mascara is always pretty too. Just try neutral colors and skin tones with pink tints, then when you are comfortable with application and know what you like experiment with colors you like. Good luck and have fun. Oh, here you go.....

I read the ingredients to make certain I'm not allergic to anything in it! Then I try it. If I like it, I purchase. If I do not like it, then I don't. I use Mary Kay Velocity for skin care (cleanser and moisturizer). I use Maybelline mascara. I use Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) for all of my other makeup.

You can purchase them at:
