There is a widget designed for your problem called TypingSpeedometer. It works great and looks pretty cool too.

good link! I thought I was at 25 WPM but now it's 34 WPM not including errors. 38 with.

Try Typing Test. The URL Is http://www/typingtest.com/. It's free and fairly accurate. It does load java initially which is a problem for some corporate environments.

Take an egg timer. Turn it over, they are for 3 minutes.
Start typing away.
When the sand runs out, stop.
Count how many words you typed accurately.
Divide that by 3.
Thats how many words a minute you type.

Go to a local job/workforce center - they usually offer free typing tests. Also check into a local college (juco) they usually offer some type of typing test as well.

its kind of childish but it tells you the wpm...go to www.popcaps.com and then find a game called typer shark...it tells me and helps to become faster at typing so..i hope it works for ya

type for 24 hours straight, count the words and divide by 1440. this will give you a more accurate number
