The most powerful way religious parents "brainwash" their children is hardly by telling them that "they will burn in eternal hell if they don't believe". It happens by making them feel obligated and expected to believe. Almost nothing is more powerful for a child then to feel like they let down their parents by doing something "wrong".

However, brainwashing occurs much more than in religion. Anytime when people are told not to think or how to think (friends, TV, school, etc) is despicable.

My favorite is when I "exist".

I love the fact that after years and years of seeing the sun rise, I come to assume that the sun will always rise.

I also like how it really seems that everything is "real" in some sense outside of the fact that it simply "appears" to me in the form of (what I've come to assume is) "sensory perception".

I'm so thoroughly brainwashed at this point, I can only momentarily "doubt" this reality when writing about things on Yahoo Answers.

I think telling little children that they'll burn in a literal hell if they don't adopt their parents religious beliefs is the most effective method ever. My favorite? There's nothing good about being brainwashed so picking a favorite is not possible. LOL

I prefer slow brainwashing, feeding small bits of information that's a bit hard to believe first and letting it digest. Then introducing conclusions based on that information, usually in a scare tactic way. After that, you offer a solution that's a small leap of faith, and then later a bigger one until they can't remember thinking any way else.

My favorite way of being brainwashed is with messages hidden among bright colors and pretty images.

Commercials on tv. Especially with children, when they see a toy they think they need to have it, I mean the kids on the tv are having so much fun.

Didn't know that saying the same thing over and over again makes it true? (Iraq is to blame for 9/11)
