only if necessary. We almost have to. American quality has declined, prices have risen and jobs have been outsourced. We have no choice but to buy foreign products for less money, because we don't make enough to by american anymore. I think its a bunch of crap, Walmart doesn't even do the Buy American campaign anymore. Honestly I think the Government should set a limit on employment outsourcing, and make a waiting period before big businesses can increase overall spending after a wage increase. Everytime wages increase big businesses of course raise prices, that doesn't do the economy anygood. So unless the govt. is going to rise WAY above the min. wage we are all pretty much screwed. There won't be anymore immigration problems though we'll all be going to Mexico for employment!

I buy foreign good because they just might be the best value for the money. The smart thing to do with your money, no matter where you live is to try and get the most you can with the money you have. If an American made product is that, then good. If not, so be it.
In a lot of cases you really can't get a 100% US made product. Do you know of an American Made DVD player? There just is not choice in some categories.
Why is that? It's cheaper to make them there, and ship them back.
Why cheaper? Because American workers are expensive.
Why is that? Because we demand the most for your labor, so we can afford nice homes, clothes, health-care, cars, gas, etc.
What alternative is there? None really. You could compromise your lifestyle and buy !00% US, but you'd not be able to buy any car, most foods, almost no clothes, unless you spend extra money and time finding them.
You know what?! I'd rather buy something form a foreign company at a fair price, and have even a low wage go to some hardworking guy or gal overseas, then have our government dole out millions to a rich dictator who makes himself a palace to live it.
Don't you think it's fair that we buy stuff from them, and in turn they buy stuff from us?
Globalization means that we are leveling the playing field in terms of production and world wealth distribution. That's a real win/win situation. Too bad there are growing pains involved.

I purchase goods based on quality, price, style, function, etc.

American industry is incurring more and more competition from foreign sources. We are living in a global economy which means I can buy goods from all over the world at competitive prices.

The answer to your question is not to simply buy American, but for American companies to become more competitive.

Simple economics 101.

My job has been outsourced four times already to India. We, as Americans, need to be the pioneers for the future. We need to create entrepreneurial opportunities so that we're not dependent on employers for income.

The more you can become self-employed, the better! I think America should be filled with microbusinesses rather than large money-grubbing corporations.

To be honest I buy foreign goods cuz they are usually cheaper, and easier to access. those jobs going over seas are jobs that our companies are unwilling to pay workers more to do. Like factory jobs, where thanks to our economy you have to give people a certain wage, but you also have to make a certain amount and produce the goods cheaply. This leads to poorly paid employees and more expensive to make goods. Now i am not saying it is right cuz its not but it is cheaper to send the work to other countries(from the business perspective) where labor and production can be done more cheaply. As sad as it is a kid in sudan can make just as many soccer balls for 5cents a day as an american adult can for 70dollars a day. It is not right but that is how it is. Can we change it sure, we can research what we buy. make sure kids are not producing the materials we buy, can we get the jobs back, no and honestly it is not practical for us to.

I buy foreign goods for a few reasons. For lots of stuff, there's as much American in them as is in domestic. Superior quality (no point subsidizing shoddy products -- like Detroit cars a number of years ago). And, well, occasionally, I simply like diversity.

BTW, check out where a lot of your produce comes from. Now that's the scary one! When we can't grow our own food, we're in big time trouble. And, yep, I buy American food -- to the best of knowledge that is.

i try not to buy any foreign stuff, i always read the labels on where things are made. that's why i definitely do not shop at walmart because they cater to other countries now and screw the usa companies.
