I've lived in both Piedmont N.C. and am currently living in Northern Virginia. I don't know what Kate Rocks m is talking about, Virginia has more big cities in it than North Carolina. Having gone to public schools in N.C., although it was over twenty years ago, I would stay as far away from them as possible. I graduated from public schools in Virginia, and have no real complaints. Northern Virginia ia a great place to live too, as far as accessibility goes. There is so much to do; D.C., Blue Ridge Mountains, Richmond, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, and the beach are all within easy driving of each other, the beach takes a little longer, but it is worth it. My advice is to go and check them both out, I think you will like Virginia more.

Funny you ask that. My mom just moved to Virginia but it was between VA and NC.

It depends on the atmosphere you are looking for, both good places. But from my opinion, I'd go with North Carolina. It is a little bigger town type place and I see more families there. But if I wanted to settle down a little more, then I'd go with Virginia. They are a little more kick back and smaller town type place. Though it does depend on what part you are in in both places :)

Well, I've never been to VA, but I can tell you right now that NC is horrible.
I live in Charlotte, NC and i'm dying to leave.
The public school system is horrible. All the shools are over-crowded and I'm not saying this in a racist statement, I'm just saying this as a fact: In most public schools in Charlotte, caucasion people are the minority.
Charlotte is boring and a trouble and high crime. Not good.

Go further North...too many rednecks there. Best places would be Philadelphia, Washington DC, New Jersey or Boston.
