Ikea or Target would be my choices. I'd get one big enough to cover any extra floor space you have, without getting in the way of your moveable furniture (ie, desk chair or cabinet doors).

Do you mean you want to buy a rug, check your question you left out a word.
The big box stores should have something. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond
As for the size, depends on your room size and if you need to coordinate with a roomie.

I have always found good prices at Target and Walmart- especially for dorm stuff.

Ikea is pretty cheap, if you're looking to get something new.....they've got lots of fun stuff for decent prices.
