Throwing you a shower is gift enough don't you think? I would be honored to do it for my friend. Yes, Thank her in person. Maybe take her out to lunch as a thank you.

It's OK to write a thank you letter and not give a gift. However, if you can afford it, it would be nice to give a very small token of appreciation. If not, I'm positive that whomever is giving the shower will be just as happy with a thoughtful note from you. I've never received a gift for any of the showers I've thrown, but I've always given gifts for the showers thrown for me. I've actually never really thought about it, but I suppose it's not a necessary thing to do.

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS! And remember, it's not the gift that counts, it's the thought. And really remember that when you're opening some horrible looking baby outfit that someone else got for you, who thought it was the cutest thing ever! I have a picture of me opening a scary looking clown and the face I made was like I was going to barf. Unfortunately, the person who took the picture was the person who gave the scary clown gift, ugh. Keep smiling!

Why would you give them a gift? They are throwing you a shower where you get the gifts. I would think that would be just fine to write them a thank you letter.

I have never heard of giving a gift to the person throwing the baby shower. A nice thank you card is ample.

It's OK with me. I'm throwing 4 baby showers in 4 months and I don't expect a gift.

you should give them a gift as well just to show how grateful you are for having them throw you a baby shower.

just my opinion though.

congrats on the baby!

I wasn't aware that you should give a gift. I didn't, and I had two showers. A thank-you note should be sufficient, in my opinion.

I don't know what the appropriate ettiquete is, but you'd think if they are giving you a shower out of the goodness of their heart, you wouldn't have to buy them a present. Just my opinion!!

well, yeah, that would be nice, I think. the shower brought you lots of stuff for the baby. and seems like that was gift enough.

do what you can. if the person gets offended that you didn't give them a gift then forget them. besides, you have diapers to buy.
