Absolutely. I can't count the number of characters I've had to look up on Wikipedia while reading 52 (had you ever heard of Egg-Fu? Or Mr. Mind? Well, I hadn't). And don't get me started on Superboy-Prime punching time or Scarlet Witch's "No more mutants." How many continuity errors are they going to explain away with those two fiascos?

Yes, actually. While a fan of comic books, there have been many a time when a storyline often gets so convuluted, you have to use an Encyclopedia to follow what's going on. Both companies are guilty of beating a dead horse when they get a good story or concept, and tend to wear out the premise, and use more than one writer which often confuses things. They also expect the reader to be well versed with all the characters and past happenings, and I hope that these companies will eventually streamline things to where more stories are accessible to more readers. It often requires discussion amongst other readers to follow what's happening or even searching outside sources, but it is also dependent upon whom is writing what. Good question.

They are....especially X-Men with all its back story and multiple books. Superman and Batman books can be confusing too. It's very hard for a newbie to get into get into any series (was much simpler in late-70s/early-80s).
Oh, and heaven forbid reading anything out of order....that's just more confusing than jumping into a new series.

Yup. I stopped reading for about 20 years. I got back into it a couple of years ago, but spend most of my time readng old Marvel Masterworks...before everything got so confusing.
I have no idea what the current universes are really supposed to be like.

OMG... that's one of several reasons I stopped buying them.
WAY too confusing with all the different X-Books alone.
You've got X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Extreme X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, Generation X, District X, Mutant X, and all the other crap that's just polluting the line.
