Yes, as long as your experience is relevant to the position at hand and recent

Yes Experience shows people what you CAN do were as a degree shows people what you MIGHT be able to do.

This is most true in Information Technology, I went to school for computer science and finished with kids that had no idea what they would be getting into in terms of real world work, my year of part time work really helped me know what I was in for, now a year out of school I'm in a position where I can hire people and I'm more inclined to hire people that have Experience over a Degree because they've already proved what they can do somewhere else.

BUT.....

HAVING BOTH IS THE BEST BY FAR, so if you have Experience now work part time to get your degree and it will REALLY pay off for you.

It depends. Now a days education is really important, the higher the degree the better. Combining experience and degree are a sure way of getting hired. It shows that you are capable of performing the job and have been educated on the job that is being performed.

I would say so. I have a really good government job and only a few people in my office have degrees. The thing is, in an office like mine, you'll end up started off higher up than if you had just experience and no degree. I have my degree and I was started off quite a bit higher than I would have been (both positionwise and moneywise) without one. But the people w/o degrees in my office have gotten just as high as the ones with degrees -- it just takes longer. It all depends on what field you are looking in to.

thats a big problem with the world today--everybody thinks you have to have a degree to get hired. some places love it if you do-but a person with alot of experience would be easier to train and slide right into the open job....NEVER COUNT YOURSELF OUT BECAUSE YOU DON"T HAVE A COLLEGE EDUCATION

Sure. Many would rather have the experience (coupled with good references, etc.) than a degree.

Yes - you have to play up your experiance and sell yourself though which can be an extremely hard thing to do for some people

I hear you loud and clear on this one...it's tough to sell yourself without a degree so you have to find a headhunter who will sell you well...you need help--you can't do this on your own..I'm in the same boat.

Yes. It will also depend on letters of recommendations and conversations they have with your prior employer(s).
