It depends on what you are looking for in a pet. Different pets have different qualities. I loved having cats, they were small, and didn't need a lot of attention, but still loved us and curled up with us sometimes. Unfortunately, you have to deal with messy litterboxes, and scratches, and some people have allergies(me). I loved having a dog, definitely loving, great companion, but if you get a puppy, they pee in the house sometimes until you train them. It's also better for a dog if you have a big space that they can run around in, and the time to spend with them and walk them, otherwise they act up by chewing furniture and other things. The bird that we have right now is great. He's a parrot, and we can teach him to say different things. He's pretty low maintenance. But if we don't give him enough attention he whines like a baby. anything in a cage or tank is probably the best bet for low-maintanance, as long as you clean up the cage often.

Our home has 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 hermit crab, 1 fish, and one guinea pig. We love them all. It depends on how much room you have, the pets need a lot of room to play and just be them selves. Make sure whatever kind of pet you get you do some back ground on them first. Some need more care than others, but they all need to be cared for and loved. You have to see if you can afford to take them to the vet. That is very important. Food, treats, toys, vet, all of this is very costly. Think of that before you get pet.

Mice are one of my favourites.

Mice are very easy to keep and after the initial setup, don't cost much too take care of. Mice make great pets for people of all ages. They can become very tame and social with their human caregivers and are a lot of fun to watch. They also come in all sorts of colours, markings, and fur types- there’s different mice for everyone!

Compared to many pets, mice are also pretty easy to take care of. As long as you have a suitable cage for the number of mice that you have, you only have to clean the cage once a week, which is very easy and not time consuming at all. They are the perfect pet for someone with a busy schedule, but also appreciate any time you can spare. Once tame, they’re also easy to handle.

My website is http://mice.wordpress.com // I've had almost every animal out there, and the rest I've taken care of at the pet store I work at.

If you live in the country, like I do then I think its nice to have more then just one pet. We have 4 horses, 1 cat, and 1dog. Mom never would put up with anything else. Personally horses are my favorite animal, but my cat and dog have a special place in my heart, but they earn their keep as well. The cat, who's name is Songa, keeps our house free of mice and Beau, our collie dog, keeps deer out of the haystack and garden, plus is a constant companion on any escapade. My horses are very special as well. I do Parelli Natural Horsemanship with my horse and it has taken our relationship to a much deeper level. I really could hardly imagine my life without my pets, they all are so loving and understanding. They have become part of our family.

Probly a dog because you can be safe with one all the time almost and they are a mans or womens best friend! A cat will be good to because they sometimes live longer.

If you have small children or by yourself, a ginneau pig is the best choice. I am 30 and I have now had a gineau pig for a year and i love him. And they are really good with kids, because they like being mauled and cuddled.

It depends what would fit your life:
A dog: Cute, affectionate, can sleep with, will give you a challenge, and a lot of excersize, but they cost a lot.
and a cat can be affectionate but it's still different.

But I'd say a dog.
