How to play Pinochle?

Pinochle is THE game in my family, and if anyone knows how to play, is it easy/how long did it take you to learn? Have any good links or tips on how to play? (I know you have to have a specific pinochle deck to play)...

Pinochle is a fun game once you learn but be ready to not do so well. My best advice is to read what you can at both of the sites already mentioned pagat.com and yahoo games, but then to watch your family, maybe even sit next to someone and have them touch on the basic rules. I cant even count the number of hours I watched my family play before I sat in. And then figure out who is the most compassionate and least competitive person, for me it was my dad. He played as my partner and we lost A LOT and in the early days we'd finish a hand and he'd laugh out loud (finally able to) and explain how my passing skills lacked. I'm still learning because I don't get to play as much, now that I moved out, but the more you play the better you get. Pinochle is quite a bit of skill ~ but once you get it, it will be fun to play with your family.

pinochle is a game of stategy...weather you are playing 4-handed as partners or not...if you think you have a good enough hand to go for it, then you bid, if you dont , then you dont bid..sometimes, if you and some one else are bidding each other up, you might want to bid, but dont bid too high because he/she might let you have it, and you may end up going set...i hope i was of some help to you!!!
