Maybe your public library has a copy of the PBS series where Bill Moyers interviews Joseph Campbell.
Campbell re-tells an old African tale where The God walks down the road between two men working in their fields.
The God has a hat that is one color one one side, and a different color on the other. And the two men start a HUGE fight over what color is God's hat!

And the rest of the villiage is taking sides, when The God walks into the village, and informs them that each person will see the Infinite God from an infinity of viewpoints, and arguing that MY viewpoint is superior to YOUR viewpoint is just too stupid.

So, go look at that video. And then, ask anybody else who thinks their religion is better than yours, if they wold wait until AFTER they've also seen the videdo, before mentioning religion to you again.

No point in wasting energy hating them. Some people enjoy being hated for their religion. It's attention, after all, AND they might even think God has chosen them to be the special targets of the hatred of Unbelivers so they can earn a Special Reward in the Afterlife. If hating them makes them feel good, that's the best reason NOT to bother doing it.

What would be best (and best for your children) is to understand where they're coming from. Remember, this is how their world revolves and goes about so everything they do or things coinsides with their religion. Don't teach your children to be hateful of people who are religious, the majority of the world is relgious to some extent and teaching them to be hateful isn't going to be any better then them preaching to you. Let you children understand why they think like this so they can understand and NOT hate.

Compassion, understanding. You don't have to agree with them at all, but don't encourage your children to continue to hate and be unedcated about the world around them.

Well Summer If this is truly how you feel then maybe you should allow other people to have their opinions and respectfully inform them that you are practing the freewill that god granted us all to believe what you want. This will stop them in their tracks and confuse them. I personally believe but that is my choice and never will I down someone for believing what they believe. The next time someone wants to preach to you about your beliefs just recite this one scripture and see what happens.... Judge not lest ye be judged thyself. I hope this helps because I know alot of people that feel like you do and that it is not that they do not believe it is just they do not want to be imposed upon to take up someone elses beliefs. If this is the case then worship how you believe and if not then do as you wish. No one can preach what god feels about you. Good luck.

Just respect their right to have a religion and they will respect your right to not have a religion. You won't always agree with people and they won't always agree with you but the key of this is RESPECT. Allow your children to decide what to believe or you would be making the same mistake than religions: you will be imposing what you believe.
You can't get a rid but when they talk say thanks but you are not interested for now.

So your saying that you'd tell a terminally ill child that there was no point in having faith, because they are just going to stop existing and turn to dust?

People need belief in something, it helps people through hard times.

WOW. Angry are we? No need to hate-that's a great value to teach your children! Why don't you just move? I rarely if ever come across these kinds of people. How they all find you and your children, that's the question. Maybe it wouldn't hurt you to get some faith...

God bless! ;)

The world is run by religious groups. You will have to chose one kind sooner or later. They are just part of the human experience and all the secrets of society.

You can't. All you can do is try to change their opinion with intelligent dialogue and debate.
