Why is weed illegal and alcohol not?It has been my personal experience that weed is a whole lot better for you.I have never heard of anyone getting high and killing someone in a car accident.Or getting in a fight, going home from the bar and beating the wife and kids.I just don't understand.

The power of alcohol lobbyists my friend. They spend tons of money to campaigns and state revenues to remain legal. Also, most people like to drink, and traditionally have been allowed to do so. Prohibition didn't work as we can see, so it will probably never be illegal.

As for marijuana, the government, back in the day, bought the "marijuana is evil" arguments and outlawed it. Also, most people don't really see the need to make it legal, but at the same time don't see the big deal with people using it responsibly. Studies show it is safer to use than alcohol, but it still impairs your motor skills and should be treated like alcohol.

It is governmental hypocrisy and favortism and only the political process can change its status.
EDIT: I agree with Kilroymaster. Harmful drug usage (or alcoholism for that matter) are just a symptoms of more serious underlying problems such as mental illness, bad family environment, and poverty.
As far as "junk science", the National Academy of Science is not "junk science".

You must be smoking it if you don't think there are accidents caused by weed smoking. Statistically they are starting to catch up to those caused by alcohol because of the huge push to wipe out drinking and driving. Alcohol in small amount is actually good for your health; smoking weed in any amount is bad for the body (especially the lungs just as tobacco smoking is) as well as being addictive. You certainly won't see it legalized in North America since the prevailing trend is towards the eventual banning of tobacco so there is no hope of making the hypocritical move of then legalizing something that is worse.

Read some real science instead of the junk science of the marijuana lobby.

While I agree that is seems stupid for one to be legal and the other not to be, I think that both are just as bad. Both cause a person not to be themselves. I have seen someone high hit someone in a car before. They said they didn't see them. Both make you stupid!

I personally don't have a problem with legalizing marijuana and taxing its sales like they do cigarettes. I think there is much controversy about whether over-use of marijuana affects your driving ability and if so, how to test for it.
