I'm referring to the movie "World Trade Center."
I heard that the cops (who the story is based on) are getting millions. I think this is a bit selfish! What do you think?

a bit selfish?
What should they get for risking their lives to save strangers? Just a thank you and a nice pin?
I would much rather see them (and the families of victims) profit from a major movie than see people be so afraid to make films documenting a historic event that nobody gets anything for 20+ years and by then half those people are dead.

Ive seen plenty of movies documenting Pearl Harbor, POWS in vietnam, and a lot of other major historic events that resultedin mass loss of lives
People are sometimes uncomfortable because its so recent.....its been 5 years. Who is to say if 10 years is more tastefull? 20 years? Its all personal and a judgement call on the producers part

You may find that they are helping the families that lost love ones in those buildings. I think you are jumping to conclusions and you need to see why this was made. Too many people have forgotten what happened that day we lost 3000 people, innocent people. They were going about their business and didn't know what was going to happen. the Soldiers in Iraq know why they are fighting but does the American public remember? WHY? I do, I lost my best friend in the World Trade Center.

Yes and I think it's too soon. Same with that movie United 93. It's absolutely disgusting how people are profiting on that.
You know what else is disgusting? All those religious novelty items and such. I find those to be disrespect and against the very teachings of the religions they promote yet everyone buys them. It's almost as if they're marketing them with the slogan "Jesus needs your money."

I dont belive that this is wrong. Why? When a tragedy occers, what do artists do? They use the tragedy to ispire their artwork to express what they feel.
Film creators are artists too. Look at films like moulin rouge, sin city, chicago.... all art. its expressions. Film is capturing real life emotionas and twisting them to give it back to the audience.
The film creature make art for a living. They create a peice of art that means alot to them, and express it in emotions that they feel twords a subject. The fact they make money off it dosnt come completly into account because alot of that money you might find in research has been donated anyways.
The money comming in is the necessity that must happen so that that filmmaker can continue to create pieces of art to share with audiences accross the globe. It takes money to create a film, and alot of the money made will be invested in another film project.
If i could create a film involving the war, i would. Its to express to future generations that emotions and the stakes of how the status quo emotion effected many, Its to show audiances that a weeping mother who lost a child broke down and cried after reciving word of his death. Its to show that no one else in america cared about that mother only because her son was one out of thousands of casualties.

Film = Art = Deviant Emotions = Loss

I think that they should pay expenses and then NOBODY should make a penny off of this movie. Give it all to some related charity or get the darned memorial built already. It's been almost five years... For some families, this is all they will ever have.

No, if someone was going to make a movie about me, I would want to get paid for it too. Besides, cops don't make that much money, the extra money might do them some good.

It figures.......... See this is what goes on...... And this is supposed to be OK?

I beg to differ.........

But then, nowadays, I expect this kind of stuff to be happening...

People can make money off of anything that is morbid and dark......... Or painful and heartbreaking.................

I don't think this would be classified as art work by anyone who lost loved ones...

But then that is just my opinion.........
