The biosphere is the life zone of the Earth and includes all living organisms, including man, and all organic matter that has not yet decomposed. The prefix "bios" is Greek for life.

In the biosphere, living organisms are linked to each other by complex food webs and food chains and it can be divided into distinct ecosystems.

The presence of a biosphere, is what distinguishes earth from other inhabitable planets.

The term "biosphere" was first used by a Russian scientist named Vladimir Vernadsky in 1929.

Hope that is of some benefit.

Well Cher, a bio sphere can be so many things. One might live life in a sphere, or even write a book about the many lives you've led. A bio sphere might be an apple, but an apple isn't exactly a sphere, nor is a pregnant woman's belly. In the 1990's a movie was released (starring Pauly Shore, and Steve Baldwin); the title was Biodome. A biodome might, sometimes, be referred to as bio sphere. Moreover, the word bio implies something of life; and, the word sphere implies a round 3-dimensional object.

Come to think of it, Brookstones sells a bio sphere. It's glass, filled with water, and has microorganisms growing inside--shrimp, plants.

Bio means life, and sphere means round, so it actually means all living things on Earth, in the air, in the water, and on Earth. So it covers anywhere living things live, which is atmosphere, oceans, earth surface and below.
