i am sorry 2 have missed u'r question earlier
a whole lot of good quality notebooks available in market ...
i'm assuming it's going to be for general purpose, word, excel, music, dvd flicks, internet email ....
best if u could define application
besides preference of size, weight ....
ok, a few good options first
let's start with dell, easiest to choose and select components
u can see most of offers as also their complete range
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=in&l=en&s=bsd
the inspirion 640 is a very good notebook
http://dellstore04.sg.dell.com/public/cart/configurator.jsp?prd_id=39091&sr_no=1
System Total (Price inclusive of delivery but exclusive of tax) : Rs 46,571.00
now lets go 2 system and customise it,
... or better u take a look
>>> i'll refine my selection and add in another few hours, from home ,,
______________________
sorry 4 late post
yup, put the dell in the recycle bin
HP Pavilion dv2025TU, yup great @ 57,990.00
HP Pavilion dv2002TU, good @ 52,990.00
similar specs, except for processor
i prefer the t2250, a dual core
scrren size, just perfect at 14.1"
weight is neat at 2.4 kgs
ram is 512 mb, 533 mhz
>> best part is it's 512 x 1
which means one slot is free & u can easily add another 512 mb later on if u need to (which i doubt)
MS Projects, dvd movies and all run just perfect
.... it's more than u need
intel gma 950 is great 4 graphics
with bluetooth, webcam, omni-mike, ..
plus dvd writer, 100 gb hard drive
... wat's left out ......
it is luxury man !
(good 2 keep some extra resources in hand 4 future applications)
>>> all the very best, it's sure a steal !

hold on ,,,,,
Compaq Presario V3035TU
ditto same specs
52,990.00
>> only thing less i find is webcam
.........gotta study more indepth i guess ....
ok, the difference is the hard drive size, 80 gb in compaq
but that's not it ,, compaq is ide hard drive & hp is sata
sata is much more faster accessing data
guess, this is main difference ide v/s sata

Laptops and notebooks are the same thing, just different names. Netbooks are a kind of laptop/notebook designed primarily for portability and performing simple tasks such as using word proccessing programs and surfing the web and they're very small in size. So basically, laptops and notebooks are the rest, the ones that are not netbooks ;)

INR - Indian Rupiahs? You have to be more specific - performance to me means a fast dual-core processor, but other people want large hard drives, while others need long battery life. There are too many trade-offs!

Hi Amit, if this is going to be your first laptop, browse some articles on the net like this one at Linux on Laptops before making a purchase.
