Suppose a Muslim converts to Judaism, does that make the person Jewish? If so the term Jewish should be applicable as religious even though the person is not of Jewish race.

I heard Jewish is matrilineal. If that is correct, when a male of non-Jewish marries into a female Jewish wife, does that make him Jewish? Does that make their children Jewish?

What exactly is Jewish then?

I am a Jew. Being Jewish is being part of the Jewish people. Being part of the Jewish people means your religion is Judaism. Anyone can become Jewish through conversion. Therefore, if a Muslim converts to Judaism, he is now a part of the Jewish people.

A person is automatically Jewish (born Jewish) if his mother was a Jew. If a non-Jewish man marries a Jewish woman, this man is still a non-Jew unless he converts. However, their children will be Jewish because their mother (his wife) is Jewish.

It's really not so complicated. The main point is that the religion of the Jewish people is Judaism - you cannot separate this fact - they are intertwined. Being Jewish is not a race - because anyone can become Jewish through conversion.

I hope you have my explanation is clear and understandable to you.
