Lessening noise coming into your house is not unlike attempts to make more money in your business.

To make more money at your business you have to reduce your costs or advertise more. AND it is easier to reduce your costs.

In this particular axiom, you either have to reduce the noise making aspects outside your house (you can ONLY do this legally by moving).

OR you can dampen the effects once the noise exists. That means double or triple pane windows; insulation and noise barriers. You might want to consider a noise barrier fence. Expensive? Yes. But is it worth the price of the peace you are looking for?

Adding vinyl siding with a noise reduction insulation may also help.

Mature trees will help, but that will take decades.

Good luck.

Assuming you don't want to tear up the walls to install soundproofing, you can plant bushes and trees to block some noise. If you have lots of property, you could consider a berm.

What kind of noise is bothering you?
