I am mad as hell! This is ridiculous. What big government and big oil companies don't realize is that WE are the country. If the poor are getting poorer by this (poor people, which used to include the ever dwindling middle class), and we are the majority, we will be spending less, and we are destined for a recession if our brilliant government politicians and people in charge of the economy aren't careful. What kind of quality of life are we headed for when all we are going to be able to do is buy fuel to go to work so we can buy more fuel so we can go to work.

Ten Ways to Save Money at the Pump

1. Drive Smart! When you drive aggressively, you waste gas and put others at risk. Observe the speed limit, avoid rapid acceleration and braking, and maintain a constant speed on the road.

2. Keep Your Car in Shape. A well-tuned car burns less gasoline. So make sure that you get your oil and air filters changed regularly, and that your tires are always properly inflated.

3. Change Your Commute. Sitting in rush hour traffic burns gas and gets you nowhere. If possible, adjust your work schedule so that you avoid rush hour traffic. Even better, and if your employer allows it, think about telecommuting. If you can't telecommute full-time, try for one or two days a week.

4. Use Public Transportation. Look into the public-transportation options in your area, and use them as much as possible.

5. Try to Combine Errands. According to the Department of Energy, several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel as a longer, multipurpose trip covering the same distance when the engine is warm.

6. Go for a Ride or Walk. Rather than drive your car to the corner store or a friend's house, walk or ride your bike there. Studies show that this approach has the added advantage of reducing your risk of heart disease.

7. Carpool. Carpool or use ride-share programs if you can. This might also enable you to shorten the time of your commute by using High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.

8. Pack Light. According to the Department of Energy, a loaded roof rack on your car can decrease fuel economy by approximately five percent. Also, every 100 pounds you carry in a car reduces a typical car's fuel economy by one to two percent. So, when you go on vacation or a long car trip, put everything you can inside your vehicle, and pack light

9. Think Hybrid. The most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road today are hybrid-electric cars. A hybrid combines an electric motor with a conventional, but cleaner, gasoline-powered engine. Over its lifetime, a 50-mile per gallon hybrid Toyota Prius will use half as much gas, and release half as much global-warming pollution, as a 23-mpg Pontiac Grand Prix.
Hot Tip: If you purchase a hybrid in 2006, you may be eligible for a new federal tax credit (as opposed to the previous tax deduction) that could be worth as much as $3,000.

10. Consider Sharing. Rather than buy a new car, sign up for membership with a car-sharing program such as Flexcar or Zipcar. These programs allow you to reserve and drive cars by the hour -- and they cover the cost of the vehicle, insurance, gas, parking, and maintenance.

NOW THEY ARE SHUTTING DOWN THE ALASKAN PIPELINE DUE TO A CORROSION PROBLEM.

We NEED to drill off the Gulf (China is drilling there now!) and we need to find more oil wells in Alaska. Hey liberals and crazy environmentalists - you're killing us!
(I like the environment and love baby seals - it will not hurt us to drill in Alaska - it's a tundra wasteland for heaven's sake)
I live in Wisconsin and the gas is over $3.20 a gallon. We have 5 cars - 3 that get good gas mileage, a minivan, and a Durango that takes $75 to fill up!

Yep, and I can top all that off too. I live here in Michigan 8 months pregnant. Hubby can't find work. Found a job in Alabama. Which is 12 hours away. For him to come home now would be 300.00 plus. So I am in a pickle here I work 40 hrs. And sure in hell can't stand this anymore.
Sorry super pissed

Well, it would be nice if the Democrats and environmentalists would let us drill into ANWAR in Alaska, we would have enough oil for at least thirty years, and that is if we ran off of that oil all by itself...but you know, the Porcupine Caribou might be offended...also, there is TONS of off shore places that we could drill, but you need to talk to Senators in Massachusetts and ask them why do you want to charge us so much for gas because yo don't want oil rigs blocking your view of the ocean?

Not I. I take the metro train. It takes me everywhere I need to go and I spend only $30 a month. If it really bothers you try public transportation. I get to go to the gym, school, work, and to volunteer, for so little. I have a good amount of money left over too.

I don't know how much your paying where you're from but its 3.09 where I live and thats the highest its been here. I know its probably a lot higher in some of the bigger states. It really sucks, I guess I'm going to have to get a hybrid or something.

The government will release some of the stockpile soon. and that will help...Plus our refineries were wrecked during Katrina. Which didn't help..now the Alaska pipeline is shut down for repairs....So gas will stay up for a while yet...

Grrrr. It's nuts. I live in a rural area and if it goes up much more, I will have to quit my job. Sad isn't it?
