Just a quick response to john killebrew's answer. Although there is a great deal of answering from people born a great deal after his death which is victim to a slight re-write of history, it should be noted that he still had fairly high poll numbers and most likely would have been re-elected. The most consistent historical opinion is that he actually prevented all out nuclear war, although he did enter painful conflicts such as Vietnam and Bay of Pigs Invasion. The most prevalent demographic that were strongly against his presidency were the far right wing constituents as well as those biased against Catholics or swayed by completely baseless anti-Catholic propaganda such as he was under control of the Pope or, one that is apparently believed today by some few unfortunate, uneducated voters, that he would be made a saint.

alright here we go, yes he was the most LIKEABLE president, but that by no means gives people the right to call him the best president ever. My apologies, but let me remind you all that this is the president that ordered possibly the worst military operation ever, ie. bay of pigs. Also the man that allowed nuclear weapons to land in cuba which is possibly the closest moment we ever had been to having a nuclear shoot out. In order to stop this from happening we had to remove ballistic missles from turkey and promise never to attack Cuba. Plus, the USSR thought of him as a weakling and pretty much did as they pleased. Yes its sad that Kennedy was assassinated but in reality he did very little in his short two year reign as President. Good man, just not a fantastic President as he is made out to be.

Without a doubt.
(a) He didn't have much competition -- Eisenhower will be remebered as a fifties president; the you had LBJ and Nixon. Who would you prefer?
(b) He didn't live to see his image become tarnished under the scrutiny of "history" and the media
If he was president today and did the same things he did then, the media would destroy him.
He was in the right place at the right time.
It wouldn't work for him today.

He was very charismatic. One of the things that made him so likable was his wife and children. We thought it was the perfect family - even nick-naming the White House Camelot.

most of your answers come from people not born till 20 yrs after his death.he was not liked,it was doubtful he would have been re-elected in64,he got us involved in vietnam, nearly got in a nuclear war,and let his brother double cross the people who got him elected.after his assasination history was revised, and he was made a saint.
