It's not too late to take ballet, but you are right for understanding that you'll have to take it. You don't have to train rigorously. You just need the basics and a few pointers on techniques for leg extensions, leaps, pirouettes, and just plain posture. But no, it's never too late to take ballet. Just start out slowly, learn to enjoy it and not be embarrassed by it. Contemporary Is really an extension of ballet. What's most important about contemporary is really the emotional connection with your routine/song. That's what's gonna make it sell. Good luck!

You are most definetly late for ballet classes but not contemporary dance. It'll probably be a bit harder since you won't be as flexible but you can change that with yoga and stretching. Ballet is not a requirement for Contemporary dance, although it is recommended.. go for it! Follow your dreams and never give up.

its not to late
what you can do is take some basic ballet classes
then move on to contemporary
all you need for contemporary is just the basics of ballet
sometimes even no experience in ballet
i know this girl in my contemporary class that has no ballet training
and is doing just fine
so its pretty much what you want to do
but take just some basic ballet
it will help alot

It's not too late. I had a professor in college that started dance in his 20s and had a very long and successful professional career. Taking ballet will be helpful in developing your strength, flexibility, balance, body awareness, control, etc. But, it isn't a prerequisite that you're advanced at ballet before you can start studying other types of dance. You should try modern dance. Less strict, more powerful, just as demanding and beautiful.

It is NEVER too late!! Ballet is a great basic for technique. You will use many of the concepts in every other style of dance.....especially contemporary. Take as many different classes as possible though....build up your skills. Dancing is a very technical skill. Memorization, strength, flexibility, kinesthetics, execution, musicalitiy, performance, technique all will be enhanced the more classes you take.

Good luck!

Ballet training normally begins when you are a young child. I studied dancing for 10 years, starting at 6. Ballet requires extreme balance and fluidity, and flexibility. Call several dance studios in your area and see if you can arrange a meeting. Keep in mind, that its never to late to pursue something you are keen on. good luck with your pursuits.

I didn't start dancing until I was 15. Now I am a professional contemporary/lyrical dancer. I hate ballet, but it would really help you out. Good luck!!!

Since your goal is contemporary and ballet is just for basic training - you are fine. Go fo it. Not a bit late.

It's never too late to start dancing. As long as you have a reputable teacher/studio to learn from, you can start! If dancing makes you happy then it shouldnt matter how old you are when you start. You'll have to work your way up of course, but that's normal with most new things :)

if you're extremely comitted. i'm thinking probably too late. i started ballet at 6. you just don't learn as well the older you get. your body may not be as flexible. hopefully you won't have to take it. ballet isn't very exciting, until you get to point.
