That is a very good question. As a woman I don't have to worry about the draft. But as a mother I worry about that with my son. He is my only son and if he was drafted and didn't want to go, I would do everything in my power to make sure that he didn't. It has nothing to do with the love of my country, it is the love of my son and it is a love I put above all else. My loyalty will always be to my child.
The war in Iraq is not a worthy cause. But if someone wanted me to go after the scumbags who were responsible for 9/11 I'd say no problem. Unfortunately we can't pick which causes we consider "worthy" and worth fighting for.

The problem with this country is that idiots like you ask questions like this. What gave you the idea that there is a choice? And, why would there be any question at all?
In response to your additional details: There were men in the 1940's who committed suicide because they were not allowed to go fight in WWII. That's why this country was great. Now, in 2006, your family is debating on whether or not to dodge the draft. What would your grandfather say? You make me sick. There is no question. If you like your life and everything around you, then you fight to keep it. We can be thankful there were not families like yours in this country prior to the 1960's. Nobody would have ever asked a question like this. Then America's worst generation, the baby boomers, came around and destroyed patriotism and values, and began questioning all forms of authority rather than respecting it. You should thank your grandfather and mine that you even have the freedom and 'the right' to ask that question, then you should apologize for asking it in the first place. This is why we are doomed, but it won't stop me from fighting anyway. Think of the position this country was in during the Revolutionary War. Now ask yourself the question again. "Should my sons fight for this country?" You'll know what I mean when we have a real threat at our door and they actually need to re-institute the draft. Then maybe you'll know how good you've had it for the last 60 years. So, tell your 2 liberal sons to stop questioning authority and do something more productive.

Been there done that. Too old to go now. I had some good experiences and some bad. But it definetly will make a man/woman out of you. And I don't mean learning to kill. It helps you to learn responsibility and what life is in the real world. It's a bit of a wake up call for a teen or young adult who are used to hanging out playing on their game boys and relying on mom and dad for everything lol and yes if it is a draft they can either go in or go to jail or go to Canada or Mexico I guess.

A draft means you have to go, unless of course you're a draft dodger and run off to Canada. If people don't want to fight for our freedom, than maybe they should move somewhere where they can be dictated ....told how to think, what to do and what to say. Every male in my family has served in the armed forces and I am very proud of them. I am glad I am free to think, speak and do as I please, especially being a woman. I couldn't imagine being a women in some of these countries where the farm animals are treated better than the women.

OK,unless WE have been working several jobs too hard all these years, taking care of kids, fighting for our country..I do believe the ERA has not been ratified yet.........and this is sad in itself........Not too late for sure to add that bit about draft, but who is even concerned with Era,not anyone in my lifetime,it seems.Hope the next generation of young hard working ladies, takes time to read this....My new daughter in law is joing the Army after she finishes up a few classes.I am too old,and.it.seems,a ghost, anyway!!!!

I think I would go to Australia and chase kuala bears. I would have a hard time giving up my life to make the oilmen richer and the black market wealthier. If there were a good reason that going to war would protect this country , I would go. But I do not believe that is the case at present.

I would go but I wouldn't be happy about it.......I would rather die for a purose rather than just so some stupid polititians don't have to get off of there fat butts and fight the war for themselves so they can just sit at home eating cocktails while thousands are dieing for them. I wouldn't be happy at all but I would do it just so I could come back to my country (if I lived) and have a normal carear instead of being labled as an outlaw or something.

No way I would fight for the politicians.
If Norway invaded South Carolina and said they own it, yeah, I would kick em out.
But I will NEVER again risk the lives of others so that a politician gets a better press rating.

It depends, If the war was just and the enemy posed a threat to our country, YES. But if it was Iraq or any other country where we are fighting terrorists, then NO. I would go to jail first. The war on terror is impossible to win! I DO NOT mean this to be disrespectful to our soldiers, But terrorists are like cock roaches, you kill one and three replace him.
