Because for the past few years it's seemed like rather than a government for the people, it is a government in spite of the people.

The government is no longer run by the people. The people fear the government because the government has so much power over them. Americans have to work as slaves to the government for months each year(if they want to work, that is). Americans have their phone calls listened to, their emails scanned/read, etc, in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans can be arrested at any time for no reason whatsoever by our government, and that is also in the name of fighting terrorism. That doesn't scare you? Sure, you could say "Our government would never do that." Whether you believe that or not, should they be able to? I fear our government, and I don't blame others that do.

I agree with you at least that the people should not fear the government. But the issue now is not in the people. The issue is in the government, because we have a scary government. To fix the situation is not to suggest Americans stop being afraid, but rather to fix the government so that we no longer fear them.

We are afraid of our government -- and you're right to point out that our government is us, "we the people" -- because it is in our heritage to be distrustful of government power. Our country was founded on the basis of revolution against corrupt government which was abusing the rights of the people. And our Constitution was written in order to make majority rule somewhat difficult (in the federal government); the Bill of Rights was written to also protect individuals from abusive government practices.

I do wish people would stop being TOO paranoid about government. I hate seeing pro-choicers saying "Keep your laws off my body!" I hate some of the extremism of anti-gun-control people, such as when they advocate the idea of having the "right" to rebel against government. And then they are those people who still think that JFK was killed by .............................................

I think certain sectors of the government can be intimidating for people. I try not to let it bother me, because I know what laws they are supposed to follow. I have three ongoing lawsuits against the government for breaking these laws.

Maybe because this Administration claims to be fighting for democracy overseas while taking it away from us US citizens. Oh, and also because our President (leader) cannot even articulate the English language?! Be afraid, be very afraid!!!
