I won't say rap isn't music, but what I will say is that a musical genre that effects so many of today's youth should be more conscious of the message they deliver. Accuse me of stereotyping if you will, but I remember when rap was not all about killing, degrading women, getting drunk, high, laid or shot, and who had the best car/SUV/house.
You can say "but thats what they lived" all you want. Plenty of musicians in other genres lived just as bad if not worse. Has it occured to anyone that if 'artists' such as 50 cent, yung joc and others put a more positive message out there that it MIGHT just help this country's youth rise above all the crap that the world has to offer? Instead of glorifying what is wrong with the world, use all your 'fame' to actually do away with the garbage you rap about? Maybe then I would have more respect for rap. But when I ride a city bus and hear some 12 year old kid talking about how some 'ho be sweatin' him' or he's 'gonna bust a cap', I just can't see the appeal of most of todays rap.
And . -
Thanks for making my point so succinctly.

Back when it was 'real' {Hip Hop}, it was music. It made you feel different emotions, {real} emotions. Now, it's called 'rap' and the material is mostly garbage. They talk about the same things. Plus, the majority of the people buying these so-called musicians albums are white kids. And it's not just rap, it's other genres that have completely changed from class to trash!

People think rap is not music because it does not fit the mold of music. For instance, there is rarely any singing, and there are barely any instruments being played.

Sometimes I can't tell the difference between 2 different rap songs.
Maybe it's me.
