I'd say Java, but I have a prejudice against languages invented by Microsoft.

finally its going to be your wish.

i will tell you something about the microsoft product and sun product.

c# - you should invest some money i suppose
java- absolutely free

c# works only in windows- platform dependent
java works in windows, linux, macintosh etc.-platform independent.

when u go further u can understand the whole java and how they have built their language. but you cannot understand how microsoft have built c#. to put in simple words u will get the answer of "how "in java but not in C#.only the microsoft person knows it.

you can extend java as u wish example(struts, ostermiller, and various packages).i donot think that is possible in c#(if at all it is possible it can be done only by microsoft people).

hope these would help you in solving ur dilemma..
