WRONG PEOPLE! The field is a combination of grass and polypropylene fibers.

It is natural Kentucky blue grass reinforced with polypropylene fibers that are sewn into the sod every 3/4 of an inch to make the turf more durable.

With Pittsburgh's tough winter weather, and usage of the stadium for more than just Steeler games, plain grass was not standing up.

I think it was all grass the first year of Heinz Field. They wanted to switch from Astro-Turf when they got out of Three Rivers. Well Heinz Field is also where Pitt plays it's home games, and the WPIAL(High School) Playoffs are played there. So late in the year that field gets torn up bad, and with the cold weather they can't do anything to help it. So they gave up after about the second year, I believe it was still all grass the second year but they had switched teh grasses, and switched to the mixed form they use now. It is still mostly grass but technically it is neither all grass or all turf.
