First you stop the first cigarette with your first cup of coffee. Then you stop the cigarettes after each meal, then you stop the cigarette you are making up excuses to have. When you find the need for a cigarette do something with your hands for about 10 minutes or walk around the house inside or out, call a friend but do not light up. Cravings will come and go. Each time you want a cigarette eat something like jello, yogurt, low cal ice cream, something. If you drive leave cigarettes at home. Going shopping leave cigarettes at home, going to a family event leave cigarettes at home. You will learn from this pattern how to do this.

Of course smoking in any amount isn't good and we know that...but yes, it is possible, I used to smoke half a pack a day several years ago, now I will have one just very rarely. How to do it? I only buy one or two packs at a time, and that should last several months. But not everyone can do that.

It is possible, anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
I tried to quit once, I used those patches & slept wit it on (pls note: if you sleep wit a nicorette patch on, it will be the worst nite sleep you ever get!) I had nightmare after nightmare 5 x in a row and when I woke up it was still only 2am.
I smoked even with the patch on which is apparently really bad so ive just accepted the fact I am gonna be a smoker forever.
Goodluck to u though!

The addictive nature of cigarettes makes that kind of restraint nearly impossible. We all know of somebody who has done something that is nearly impossible but their example is not one that is advisable for normal people. If you manage to quit smoking every time you smoke "just one" you are giving your addiction an opportunity to kick in and take over.

u have to reduce your smoking one step at a time. if u just drop the amount of cigarettes u smoke, ure body will not react to the sudden change. the body of a human is adaptive, but for something like nicotine u have to reduce gradually so your body can slowly adjust to the reduced intake of nicotine.

I guess that's okay if you have that kind of self control. But, all it takes is that ONE, and the next thing you know, you're back at the habit again. It's so hard to quit. But, if you do, you start smelling things again, you will actually feel healthier, you don't feel "poisoned" anymore. (and smokers know what I'm talking about).

If you are obsessive /compulsive , like so many of us with addictions are, you will never be able to "eat just one" , so to speak.
I've been there. It was all or nothing.
