My 8th grade dance is this year and I want to start looking for dresses, what stores have really cute dresses! please help!

You're starting a little too early. The new fashions will come out sooner than you think, and there may be something in the spring that you will like better than what you buy now, since formal wear is mainly a spring fashion. The fall and winter dress will be mainly holiday and New Year's styles. Trust me, you don't want velvet in May!
Look at prom dresses, and try to find the less formal styles. Knee length or slightly below. Floor length will be a little much for 8th grade. Most clothing and department stores will carry them starting around February. Take someone with you to try them on. And shop around before buying. Try not to spend too much since you probably won't get to wear it again. You're still young enough that you are still growing. By the time the next formal even rolls around, it probably won't fit anymore.
For a few ideas in advance, try window shopping only online.

Click on a few stores and see what catches your eye. Keep it in mind when buying. Remember, just because it looks good on the rack or some model, it won't always look good on you.

I'm going thought the same thing and i would look at stores like Lohemann's, maybe macy's any store that carries formal attire.
