She went to the doctor to have her 1st ultrasound at 6 weeks.

They said her baby wasn't developing as it should be.

They said it looks like she may miscarry.

She has been having a real tough time with this pregnancy, she's been sick.

She has to take another test to see if her baby is an embryo or just a sac.

What does this all mean? What could they mean by seeing if its just a sac?

With my third pregnancy I went for a dating scan which was confirmed by the hospital as approx 6wks. I only had a sac and no embryo showing - this is normal this early on and the baby would be too small to see or get a heartbeat shown.

Unfortuantly the following week I no longer felt pregnant and the next scan which should have showed an 8wk baby, and was booked because that is when you are more likely to be able to see the heartbeat, confirmed that the baby had died - but they could now actually see a baby and that there was NO heartbeat.

I would wait until the following scan as that should show the embryo and will easier for them to know the situ. Wishing you and her luck and hope it alll turns out well. xx

Sometimes conception occurs and the sac develops but then everything just stops. The pregnancy is not viable any longer and the person either miscarrys on their own or a DNC is performed to remove the material. At 6 weeks there should be a visible heart beat on an ultrasound. This happened to my sister and she lost the baby a week later.

I had to miscarries and the 2nd on they told me that too. They said the sac may be all that was left. The baby may already be gone. I had the same circumstances, but i lost my baby. I really hope this is not he case ofr her. God bless you and your family.

If they do a scan and it is just a sac, that means there is no baby and the pregnancy will terminate.
