You are talking about our path through life.
The trick to evolve and grow spiritually is to recognize the holes you keep falling into and walk around them the next time you see them.
To answer your question... we get used to the holes on our street but when we venture out further the holes are disguised. Like the man who continues to marry the same type of woman after each divorce and they are the same but wrapped in different guises.
A great question. Holes are a natural part of life. Some fall in and never get out, like an alcoholic who is lost. Or a person hating his/her job but has not the drive to change. They get used to complaining and it becomes natural to them. it is easy for others to see the hole they are in but not so easy for the person in the hole.
Man will not change until he realizes the awful conditions he lives in and only then when he has a sincere desire to do so.
