I live in a small city of about 30,000 30 minutes East of Oklahoma City on I-40 which runs from the East Coast to the West Coast, plus I-35 which runs from Northern US border to Southern US border is 30 minutes W. of us also, which is called the crossoads of the US. Because of the convenience of travelling on these interstates, it creates a perfect crime area to carry illegal products in vehicles. We have lots of methamphetamine production, car theft as Norman, OK is also 45 minutes SW and cars are quickly dismantled and taken to the 4 corners of the US from Norman. There's lots of chop shops there since it's conveniently located. We had 13 certified gangs 8 years ago that the FBI knows about but I don't have the latest stats on gang count. Gangs pretty much destroy the parks and downtown area. We actually have a lot of murders for a town of 30,000 but meth making is conducive to violent crime. Juvenile delinquency is rampant with the kids destroying cars, slitting tires, breaking windows in cars and homes, and public property destruction. There's lots of racism in our middle school and hight schools, as we have a regular one and an alternative one. Unfortunately we have a lot of adults molesting children, I believe due to our low education level here. Golly, the further I go the more I wonder why I continue to live here! It sounds horrible to be so small, but I never am subjected to crime as I live in a pretty safe area, if there is such a place. I knew more about all the crime before I retired from teaching as my 5th graders were often in the center of the crime as I taught in a deprived school with 93% of kids on free lunches. The parents didn't have cars, often homes, phones, education, and all the other things parents need to take proper care of kids today. I know poor people can make great parents but that's usually country people who are such great parents. I was also on the District Attorney's Narcotics Task Force Committee and I learned more than I wanted to know about this little town.
