Its truly an amazing song!!! Im a huge Elton fan and this song is really special. Next to Your Song, this has got to be Elton's most beautiful song!!

* Originally performed by Elton John
* In an interview with Taupin, the song was based on a story which had appeared in Newsweek after the Vietnam war, about a returning veteran who wanted to return to a normal life, but the small town citizens insisted on making him into a war hero, and decides that, in order to put the war behind him, he leaves for Spain
* Taupin wrote an additional verse that made this clearer, but it was removed when Elton thought the song was already too long
* The song was a #2 Top 40 hit in 1973
* It was the 7th of 59 (and still counting) Top 40 hits for this musical superstar
* The song was also covered by Wilson Phillips in 1991

Yes it's great. When I had my first child I named him Daniel and it took days to get the song out of my head. And my Daniel has four younger brothers, and they all think that he is a "star"
