You stole something and don't want to give it back?

That's what I'm hearing.

The 9/10 theory was used in cases where there was clearly no wrong-doing, just misunderstanding, such as when my cattle got into your property and mingled with your cattle. If they weren't branded yet, the theory was that since they were on your property and there was no wrong-doing, and I could not clearly prove/identify each cow, then they were yours.

It don't even apply if there is intent or fraud or any other illegal action.

There's no such thing in modern law; it's just a Hollywood-ism.

edit: I don't think you stole something; I think you found something. But you have to try very hard to find the real owner. If it's valuable, talk to the "hook" (police, for the un-hip). You may have to run an ad for a number of days or something.

It never does.
Unless you earned it or bought it(and keep paying taxes on it).
You are right! Nothing ever belongs to you.
If you earn it or buy it, but don't pay your taxes you never own it.
The only thing that truly belongs to you is your integrity I guess.

That is no longer true, if it ever was. Consult a lawyer to prevent any misunderstandings or complications.
