I know of people who have already quit their jobs, because of the commute. better to find a job closer to home. One gallon of gas is not equal to 1 mile, so I don't expect to see a lot of people just quitting. Like everything else it will hit the poor the hardest, correction working poor, and elderly, I would think. Will people cut out things like Dr. visits? How about restaurant night, or movie night?
If this keeps up and Alaska stays closed for months, as they have said they would, then I believe things are going to get very interesting. ie. I live in New York [ Western] and yesterday fuel was 3.11 with tax, and 2.85 on the Rez

What the hell this guy says minimum wage in California is 6.75
I live in Virginia but I don't see state as much of a determining factor as the poster where I work designates the FEDERAL minimum wage as 5.15 per hour and it has since been raised to 6.35
Even more interesting is that this federal minimum wage was set in 1997 since which time congress has given themselves 11 raises. 8 of these raises site cost of living increases as justification. If one were to work an entire year at minimum they would make 10,000 dollars below the poverty level. I ask you a question in return- Why should wealthy business owners pay poor ignorant workers a decent wage if their bedpartners that write the laws don't care to make them (which the politican bedpartners are business owners as well)

That won't be nearly as bad as when a gallon of gas exceeds an hour of work at executive salary. With Prudhoe Bay going off-line in Alaska, we can expect prices to jump a lot this week.
I think it's time we realize not everyone who drives now will be able to afford to drive in the future,
Hopefully this will induce politicians to say even dumber things than normal this election cycle. I can just hear them now, claiming gas prices are too high because of some program they proposed didn't get passed and how they'll try again, or because someone's taxes aren't high enough.

There will be no reprecussions as long as the American people rely on fossil fuels. Why isn't the government trying to get us away from this. Because of big business ......
