Alright, so I bought a 4 level home, plenty of toys, littler boxes, ceramic food bowls, water bottles, and padding for the cage bottom (its made of wire, which coould hurt their little feet, so i protected it.) I also bought ferret shampoo and vitamins, and of course food and litter. i also bought a harness and leash to take them on walks every once in a while. ive ferret proofed my home and prepared enough money in case a vet visit is in order.

is there anything im missing or doing incorrectly in preparation for my ferret? it is one descented, neutured male with all shots and all that jazz.

WOW, congrats, you're doing a great job. I wish there were more like you out there.
If you ever come across it, get "Ferrets for Dummies". I've had ferrets for a bit and it taught me a few things yet, besides, it's funny. And maybe you could stay in touch with other fert owners, either in a local group or online. Just in case.
And you might want to look into an emergency kit of sorts. Here's a site that'll give you an idea, but be forewarned, I don't have one nearly that extensive:
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=11&cat=1293&articleid=556
I do have the FerretLax, tweezers, styptic powder, a stethoscope, syringes of different sizes, nail clippers, Coban dressing(it sticks to itself not the fur, you can actually immobilize an injured limb with it), ear cleaning solution, hydrogen peroxide(it's used to make them vomit if they get into something poisonous, but call the vet before you do it) a pet carrier and most importantly your vets phone number AND a number of an emergency vet.
I also keep a log on all of mine, because with 4 it gets confusing sometimes(actually, I'm just getting old). I write down when we bathe and clip nails, I note our monthly weights(I have one kit and a senior in my bunch, so I keep track of weights monthly). And I keep track of special events, near catastrophes and their likes and dislikes or when I changed foods and how they reacted to it. Just something to help me figure out what went wrong should it ever. Besides it's good info for the vet and sometimes fun to read, lol.
You are doing wonderfully, I wish you all the best and lots of war dances and weasel kisses for the future.

padding you are on top that is great.

shampoo good remember not to over bathe them.
vitamins great for keeping your ferret healthy just don't over do it.

make sure it high qulity ferret food.

dust free litter not scoopable.

harness make sure you let them get use to and adjust it so it fits and they can't get out.

Sounds like you have a plan of action. Just don't forget plenty of time to spend with your new pet. They need to be played with daily and don't forget to try and ferret proof a room so you can give your pet a little freedom to explore. Watch out for recliners and sofas when your ferret is out.

congaulations on your new member! Just make sure that you have plenty of time for them, and you play with them often and switch up their toys so they don't get bored. Take him to a vet right away to get his next set of shos cuzusaually when bought at a pet store they only have one or two af their three dose series of shots, and this lets you also get his rabies cuz most stores don't give that either and most towns require the rabies. ps right when you get home put the tag on the harness so its with you when you walk him. have fun!!

sounds like he is going to be one happy guy remember to give him a bath every day even though he is dissented he will still have a smell about him and they love to play should warn you that when they play they bite they do this with other ferret's and most do it with their owners their not trying to hurt you just the way they play this habit can be broke but most learn how hard they can bite without hurting you to brake the habit use a water bottle just like you would for a cat oh don`t forget his shots you can give them yourself it saves allot of money they get their shots every year my vet showed me how to give them their shots so ask the vet
