The lap top is a gateway from 2003...the thing is I spilled some water and I decided to just buy a new lap top instead of fixing it. Also I have a computer that I no longer want....it is a compaq from the year 2004. Can I just throw it away or do I send it somewhere?

As a technician, I could probably get that laptop fixed and resell it for a few hundreds (hopefully the laptop has good size of RAM, HDD, and all that). An average fee to fix a laptop with described problem is $200 at the least. You could also leave it like that and sell AS-IS on eBay or your local www.craigslist.org (very popular free local ad site). Providing that you mention what happened to the laptop, someone like me will consider getting it from you if your price is reasonable.

I think donating both machines will be a better and faster way to get rid off 'em.

Donate it to a local charity or school. Be fair and tell them why, though. Your computer geek or computer reseller should be able to help you wipe All your personal data. Be sure you know who it is going to, and get a receipt. It's being paranoid, I know, but the local police busted a company here that was supposed to be refurbishing computers for schools only to turn around and resell them.

You can either sell it on eBay, donate it to charity, or contact your garage man or something. Because they can recycle the computer parts or someone even buys the parts from you
